What We Do

The mission of the Office of Research Administration (ORA) is to provide transparent and efficient administrative support to faculty, staff, and students to advance the University mission of intellectual distinction. ORA provides services covering the range of research from basic research to its application and commercialization. Our responsibilities are to

  • support and foster scholarly work,
  • facilitate multidisciplinary initiatives,
  • support, coordinate, and direct sponsored and non-sponsored research activities,
  • support, coordinate, and direct University-based technology transfer programs,
  • support and advise in areas of research compliance.
  • develop research compliance policies

The Office of Research Administration includes the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), the Office of Research Compliance (ORC), the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT), Institutional Research Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

  • The Office of Sponsored Programs assists faculty and staff in the submission of grants to sponsoring agencies as well as negotiates research contracts with government and industry partners.
  • The Office of Research Compliance works closely with both investigators and the various regulatory programs on campus (for example, the IRB, IACUC, Environmental Health and Safety, and others) to ensure that our investigators and the institution understand and meet their ethical and legal obligations in conducting research.
  • The Office of Technology Transfer provides assistance in identifying, patenting, and licensing new technologies developed at Emory.  OTT also provides assistance to start-up companies both with their business plans and their space needs in conjunction with the EmTech incubator facility.
